Oakland police said Dunbar jumped into the violent confrontation to protect her sister.
She was allegedly trying to strike a woman fighting with Kash with a handgun.
Dunbar then fired a shot that struck her sister, who was rushed to a hospital but later pronounced dead.
Kash, 29, became known for her time on reality TV shows such as “Real West Coast Baddies,” “Room H8z” and “Young and Reckless.”
The night of the shooting, the reality TV star uploaded Instagram stories of herself enjoying the night out.
Kash, whose real name was Mackayla Paige, was gunned down shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
The shooting happened on the 200 block of 14th Street where officers found Paige suffering from her wounds.
The influencer had dreams of making it big in the entertainment industry, launching her own business and pursuing a career in makeup.
Her loved ones described her as having a larger-than-life personality as they gathered to pay tribute to her following her tragic death.
Nicky Clayton, Kash’s cousin, told KTVU she was still struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss.
“I’m in disbelief,” Clayton said as she helped put together a memorial for her cousin.
Clayton said Kash had been spending time with family before her death and that she never imagined something like this would happen.
“She was chilling. She was with family. So she supposed to be good. I don’t know what transpired, but I know she’s supposed to be here,” Clayton told KTVU.
Clayton added that her cousin was determined to become a star and had big ambitions for her future.
“She wanted to be famous so bad. She still had morals, don’t get me wrong. She wanted to be a reality star.
“She was wanted to start her own business. She was modeling for a lot of companies, and she really wanted to do makeup,” Clayton said.
Kash’s friends also gathered around the memorial, sharing memories of the aspiring star and the impact she had on their lives.
One friend, named Poodahh, who has “Spoil Me With Kash” tattooed on her hand, said Kash was always encouraging those around her to succeed.
“She pushes me to be better every day. She sees when I’m not giving it my all, and she pushes me to be what she knows I could be,” she said, according to KTVU.
Poodahh also recalled the countless adventures they shared and her friend’s infectious personality.
“Oh my God, she was so fun. Was she not hella fun? Oh my God, this girl was so fun. She had us everywhere,” she said.
Still struggling to accept her friend’s death, Poodahh said she couldn’t bring herself to speak about Kash as though she’s not here anymore.
“She’s not gone. I can’t speak to her in the past tense.”
In a heartbreaking tribute to Kash’s dreams of stardom, Poodahh added: “I’m sorry for all of our loss, because she’s a star.”
